"Another design which is frequently encountered is snakes, first popularized in jewelry by Queen Victoria's wedding ring, which was in the form of a snake . The grotesque nature of snakes also played into the fantasy creature aspects of art nouveau design. This buckle, with its loops of snake bodies, also captures some of the whiplash design features of art nouveau. This buckle is almost 5" wide and is by Kerr. The stone in the snakes' mouths is an amethyst."
