"In the June 1895 of The Keystone (a magazine devoted to precious metals products and manufacturers) an article demonstrates a new method for anchoring a metal belt decoration to a specific place on the skirt, so that the belt and buckle do not twist or move around the waist. An "eye" is sewn in the appropriate location on the skirt, and when clasped to the eye, the hook keeps the belt decoration in place. So, the mystery of the hook at the bottom of belt pieces is now solved."
