Slide #82

"This is another strange Kerr buckle. Here, a somewhat typical silver two-piece buckle has an added element soldered to the center in the form of a copper grotesque laughing head. The copper element is identical to silver elements made by Kerr and used on other pieces (they can be found in the belt on page 33 of this presentation.) A close examination of the piece shows that it is a copper stamping soldered to a flat silver back. The entire element has then been soldered to the front of the buckle. I have found other similar pieces by Kerr (silver buckles with copper elements) so this is a technique that, while unusual and encountered infrequently, was used by this maker. This buckle is about 2.5" wide."
