Slide #2

silde

This was my first card case. I bought it because I loved the engine-turned engraving and I needed something to keep my business cards from getting dog-eared. I don't actually use it, though—modern cards are slightly too big to fit, and I'm afraid of scuffing up the case if I carry it in my bag.

It has the Gorham marks, and it's not marked sterling, so I assume it's coin silver. I think that “O” is the Gorham date mark for 1882, but the engraving looks earlier to me, more like the 1860s. I find this puzzling and would welcome enlightenment.
