Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate--and light in darkness to one and all. And today, coincidentally, Merry Christmas too!

For the past several years (since I came up with the idea), I've been setting up a menorah made of my grandmothers' teacups. This year it's Grandma Rosie's Minton Gold Rose teacups, flanked by two John Wolfe Forbes teapots.

Very attractive. What do you use for the light in the cups and fireplace? It must be small to fit into the cups, but the light looks very intense.

Gorgeous, Polly! What a wonderful way to both create a new use for something and honor your grandmother at the same time!

Thank you for the kind words.

The light in the fireplace is a string of Christmas lights in a glass jar. The lights in the teacups are little tea-light candles--the kind that come in a little aluminum cup. I use beeswax.

Here's a close-up of a candle in one of the teacups:

Quite elegant and a much better use of teacups than drinking tea (or hot water spoiled)

Happy Chanukah Polly, your menorah is so much better than our old brass one... (it is sentimental though).

Gorgeous, and a brilliant idea. So brilliant I'm stealing it for our 2017 advent wreath!

My grandmother's wedding china includes teacups we never use because the size and shape aren't useful. But they're perfect for this use -- almost translucent white, w thin gold rims. Off to try a tea light in one right now...

Happy new year, silver friends.
