Having solemnly vowed that enough was enough, I promptly went out and won a ladle.

The bright-cutting is quite nicely done and even extends to the drop, which I have never seen before. Has anyone?

I am fairly sure the mark is Joseph Carpenter of Norwich and the piece dates to c 1780, when he was at the height of his career.

The question, of course, is am I right? Opinions, anyone?

I agree, the engraving on the drop is unusual and obviously original to the piece. Definitely a keeper!
