This is a new thread to see who might be interested to meet at the Newark Museum at a time to be determined (perhaps next summer) to view the new gallery of silver that Mr. Dietz will be installing. This is a preemptive attempt to ask him if he would give a tour/talk about the silver to an SMP forums group?

So if we assume Mr. Dietz is busy (not that any one else isn’t) and that he will tell us he is on board or not, it may be good to get a list of those who might like to do this. I will start the list and add your name to it and copy it into your reply to this post.

My thanks to Doc for the “field trip” idea; obviously it has been a much longer time since I have been on one!

And my thanks in advance to Mr. Dietz for considering this idea if only for a nano second before he kindly lets me know that this will not work because, A) To busy, B) His idea of a really bad day, C) The group could not pay enough! and D) Doc and I are the only ones who sign up and he does not give private tours...

This is just to follow up and clarify what may have come across as too jocular a post and also presumptuous. I did mean to be light in tone but I was serious and enthusiastic about visiting the finished gallery.

So I think an apology is in order - I should have approached the whole subject differently.

Mr. Dietz I would like to start again and formally ask if you would be willing to give a tour of the finished gallery, at some point when you have the time, to a group of enthusiasts?

I realize that the Internet is so wide open that there may be questions about who shows up but I assume it would be like getting a group with a wide span of knowledge from lets say the local Elks club. That is not the best example but my hope is if the group were collected from these forums it would be an enthusiastic crowd.

It may also be that this sort of thing may not be possible for a bureaucratic reason?

I apologies for not asking first and I hope you will take it as a compliment from someone who would look forward to hearing your thoughts on the collection.

I was following all this with great amusement--and didn't think anyone really expected an answer so long before the fact. Of course I'd be thrilled to give a special--and, more important, FREE--tour to my fellow argentophiles, but it seems so far away till that gallery is actually done it's hard to conceive it in my head.

So keep in touch with me via email and as plans coalesce, first in my head and then in reality with our staff, I'll have a better sense of when this will really happen. August 2010 is most likely...

Phew - so glad, I was worried - you never know how things will be taken in a world that is just type face!

So can I beat the drum again? Not that I would mind going with just Polly, Doc and my wife!

Come on everybody it should be a great visit (and FREE too!):

Great June - now the numbers are begining to look respectable! To all the lingerers there is still room but do not leave it too long, I am sure at some point Mr. Dietz will limit the numbers... ;-}

Seaduck, glad your in!
Nobody is worried about the timing right now... in fact there is none at the moment! So perhaps when the date is close we can canvas the group and Mr. Dietz to get a date that works for the majority.

Uh oh...I better check and see when we plan to actually open this gallery next year...I'm pretty vague about dates. But I usually am more mellow in the summer because things quiet down, even if I have projects to work on...and the silver gallery is definitely one of my major events for next year.

NO! NO! NO! Everybody is taking this much to seriously including the CURATOR! Here is the opening sentence to this thread with highlighted words to make the point.

"This is a new thread to see who MIGHT be interested to meet at the Newark Museum at a time TO BE DETERMINED (perhaps next summer) to view the new gallery of silver that Mr. Dietz WILL BE installing."

Not - You MUST sign up and Mr. Dietz HAS to get this done by X date.

So everyone PLEASE if your on the list its just to say your interested and if you are trying to get a gallery ready....
Well there is no date, no preasure, we just want to come see it when its ready (you know, really, the world is still going to be here after 2012 so there is no rush?).

P.S. If others still want to get on the list feel free to cut and paste the list with your name tacked on the bottom with the appropriate number - you do not need me - no one made me commander in chief and I may not be here all the time to mind the list...

Actually the gallery is due to open by the end of May 2010, so we're in the clear. You all hire the bus and I'll call the caterer.

If you inspire me enough I might figure out a way to do a hands-on visit with stuff that didn't make it into the gallery (like the rest of those poor services, see above...)

Ah, reality!

I want to forewarn my argentophiles...due to looming budget losses, my planned silver gallery might be severely curtailed...I'm still planning silver displays, but not the way I'd seen it in my mind...

More bulletins to follow as things evolve.
But, fact is, there's plenty of silver for me to give a tour to a group of eager silver lovers...you should plan to come visit during the summer ANYWAY. My motto is: silver is always better in person. True that.

I'm so sorry about the cuts, Ulysses! But I'm still coming to see whatever you do put in the gallery.
