[01-1317]

I came across this platter and have looked all over trying to find out if it is plated or not?

It does not have any markings besides a Lion with Sheridan and the words Taunton Silversmiths LTD.

Here are some pics of the platter and the marking:

Does anyone know if this is a recent piece or older? Silver or plated?

I have not had much luck finding anything about this company.

Thanks!!

Sheriden Silver of Taunton MA is a maker of silver plated hollow ware. They have been in business since 1946. Taunton has been in business since 1974. This appears to represent a merger of the two firms, or a joint production. The design is of the type featured throughout the 20th century.

Taunton Silversmiths were bought out by Lenox, I think in the 1970s. Lenox's manager in turn bought out the company in 1984 and then sold it in 1991.

In August 1993, the plant was destroyed by fire. I guess that as a consequence of this, Taunton then created Creative Gifts International as a marketing rather than manufacturing concern.

Your tray may in fact be imported.
