My name is John Eastman and I have a cup that belonged to my father.
It was made by James Dixon and Sons of Sheffield.
On the bottom of the cup are the numbers;
12
J209
2479
6-12
What do they mean?

Thank you!

Well focused photos of the cup and close-up of any markings are essential. Just on the surface, though, these appear to be simply model numbers and inventory control numbers. There is nothing in them that suggest the cup is silver. My first thought would be that the metal would be either silver plated or pewter or nickel.

Thanks for the reply.
That is what I thought they might be.
The piece is sterling for it has has Dixon's sterling hallmarks.

Thanks. You did not mention the hallmarks in your initial post.

Could you please post a photo of the cup so that everyone here can enjoy seeing it?

Thanks.

Hi - personally, can't see any purpose in guessing at the marks you're curious about, please post pictures, you should be able to show them if you can post the previously unmentioned hallmarks, at this point we don't even know if they're stamped, engraved, or scratched...
