With this new category, I'd like to start off by introducing one of the major players in the mass market stainless flatware business. The company is called Hampton Forge Ltd of Eatontown NJ. It traces its roots all the way back to 1992. It differs from the major silver makers in that it is profitable and expanding its markets.

The company describes itself:

"With a background in housewares and a vision to offer functional objects, of aesthetic value, at affordable prices, Hampton Forge was founded in 1992 by Felix Amar. Beginning with flatware, Hampton Forge built its reputation and quickly developed a loyal customer base. Building upon this success, natural expansion of their quality-value proposition led to new products in categories such as cutlery, barware, and kitchen tools. Today Hampton Forge is proud to be a respected leader in the Housewares and Tabletop industry."

One of the more interesting features of the company website is the Where To Buy. I don't think I have ever seen a list where outlets like Dillards and Nieman Marcus were listed alongside Sam's Club and Ace Hardware.

It appears that Hampton Forge is a major provider of middle class flatware. And yet I had to look it up after seeing the product all over the place. There is not a lot of newspaper coverage of the firm. They do not sell from their website. Hampton does do a lot of tabletop trade shows.

Had anyone here ever heard of this major maker of US flatware?

Whats the story with the flatware pattern at the top of the Argent Orferes pattern page? Is this a Hampton Forge pattern and does it have a name?

I have no clue about that pattern. At Replacements, Hampton Silversmiths has hundreds of patterns listed. Which for a 1992 company is astonishing. They appear to rely on a constant stream of new patterns for their marketing. My guess is that this is an older pattern, one no longer made.

Currently, Target offers 70 different Hampton Forge products. (The only traditional US silver maker sold thru Target is Oneida.)

What I find interesting is that during the period when most of the traditional silver makers were in serious business straits, Hampton Forge was able to build up a successful flatware market.
