Today we got a call from a family member of a Silver Salon Member who has past away. This member joined in 2004 but never posted. The member was apparently a serious collector of coin, early American pattern & English silver spoons and they studied the forums.

The family says they are going to send us a list of what is available and if there is interest they will follow up with photos.

If members might be interested in purchasing please let us know and we will send you the list when we get it.

We were just asked (via email)
quote:
Are they wanting to sell the entire collection or individual pieces?

Our reply:

quote:
They will consider anything as long as the items won't be scrapped.
The family knows nothing about silver but they are sensitive about preserving human history (not just what the deceased did).

From the bare information given, this will be difficult. Are any images available? Do we just make an offer? Given that there is no way to judge value except by the name and a supposed date, I can't see giving much past scrap -- something like $5-$10 a spoon.

I would be very interested in getting more information from the owner and possibly buying a fair number of these to jump start a collection.

Awaiting a response from the family...they may be returning home and not regularly checking for messages.

If you are interested in all of the above please be prepared with an $$ amount to offer.

I would like to speak with them directly and get information on condition, specific sizes, etc. It was mentioned that there may be others and I want to find out about those also. If they are located anywhere near me - I'd like to see them in person. They will be preserved. Tks.

this just in...
quote:
Hi there,

Yes there are more spoons but sadly I have run out of time. There are around 50 or so more but I believe the majority still need the makers and year to be identified.

I am at the airport heading back today.

I am unsure of how much they are worth.

We are open to offers!

Best,
J.

Make an $$ offer (via email to info@SMPub.com ) on what really is of definite interest to you. Be sure to include the page/line number. Then we will see if $$ offerred gets us good photos.

No point asking for details if the $$ will not be considered.

Sorry for the late reply.
Please let your member know we appreciate the interest and the offer which we are considering.
In answer to your questions I believe the majority of the spoons are American and some of this information has been included in the list.
The majority of the flatware are spoons unless otherwise stated on the list.
The spoons are located in TX but I am in the UK so please bare with us with regards to info and photos etc.
Best regards
J

Please pass on our sincere apologies for the delayed response and explain my husband and I are in two different time zones and he works shifts so has been difficult to arrange time to discuss.

We appreciate the offer and interest but would accept [$xxxx] for the spoons on the list and an additional 50 (we think) in the box.

We would have to re-negotiate the price if we find we have more spoons in the box and or in the collection as we would like to sell the whole collection including wooden presentation box(s) and storage cloths etc.

Kind regards
J

The offer was conditionally withdrawn.
quote:
I wouldn't be comfortable at that level and in any event would have to see a complete list and pictures of everything offered.

The acknowledgement:
quote:
We completely understand and would expect you would want to see what you are buying...who wouldn't? I believe the remaining spoons are un-labelled so there may/may not be gems there?...I will speak to my husband about counting the remaining spoons and listing them.

Best,
J

Hi,
Nice to hear from you.
I am planning another visit to The Colony in April so will take pictures. Can I post on your forum again?
