"This buckle is strange due to the material from which it is made. The design is rather ordinary, but it carries the Kerr mark (the axe on its side) and no metal content markings. It is cast of an unidentified base metal and gilded. Unger Bros. also made buckles from a base metal labeled "roman alloy." This buckle is about 3" wide."
