Another interesting example by the Howard Sterling Co. is the cane handle seen here. Probably dating to the mid- to late 1880s, the style is similar to the Shiebler buckle and #1094 pin shown previously, wherein a group of not necessarily related creatures are grouped together on one piece. In the case of this cane handle, the creatures include a beetle (missing a leg, alas), an owl, a dog holding the corpse of a game bird, and a duck in flight (the latter two are not visible in the photograph). Some elements, such as the bug and the crescent moon, are rendered in copper, as is the inlaid monogram on the top.
