Are you setting an English, American or French table? Full service, service russe, partial, or individual? Modern or circa? Each would handle the matter of tongs and their kin differently. (I won't mention that the proper way to eat asparagus is with the fingers -- it is the one exception to the rule -- but you must eat the entire spear at one time, no setting it down.) IP: Logged |
