Hello,

I've been lurking for a while admiring your knowledge (and secretly trying to absorb it all...LOL)...

This is the one area I am not knowledgeable and I sure could use your advice on 2 items, if you don't mind.

The 1st is a large coffee pot I purchased as part of a lot from England. It is beautiful, and very heavy, and aside from one minor detail...smile...is perfect...But it has no lid. I have included a pic here of this 12" high, 8 across pot. My question on this is twofold...One, IF a new lid is findable, would the increase in value justify the cost of purchasing it.

The 2nd I cannot identify who made this. There is a mark, but it is so small I can't even see it. I took a picture of it in the hopes you might recognize it.

One last question...yes, I know...very pushy...LOL...Have you ever heard of a silversmith with the initials of JB, likely in the 30's? Got an unsolved mystery you might enjoy... smile .

If you can assist me I sure would appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Laurie

Regarding the coffee pot -- "1,50L" is not the maker -- probably represents the capacity, 1.5 litres. Are you sure this is silver? It doesn't appear to be. If English made, at best it is electroplate. Not sure where you'd find a lid. Ye Olde Lidde Shoppe perhaps (... smile).

When it comes to silver I don't mind admitting that I'm not sure of anything...yet...LOL. Quite honestly, however, it does have the look and feel of silver...It's quite heavy, 3 pounds, if that tells anything.

You could be right about it not being coffee...LOL...I'm a caffeine freak, so I see a filter and everything else leaves my mind...LOL.

Here are some pics of various parts of it. By the handle you can see that it is tarnishing. The pin is from one of the sides. This holds the top onto the base.

I appreciate you taking the time to help me ...smile. I am always intrigued more by something I can't figure out...LOL.

Thanks,
Laurie

The marks are too small to make out, but this looks like nickle silver from the photos. It may be European since I think the British used pints rather than litres?

Thanks...In a way I'm almost glad you couldn't read them, since it really would have made me feel old...LOL.

I really appreciate your assistance. I'm sure I'll be seeing you again...smile.
