Admittedly I havn't had the time or resources to pursue this line of thought, so feel free if anyone wants to check more closely. In the appended photo is a partial view of a postcard showing Sing Fat Co, an oriental bazaar. The card is postmarked 1908 and is located in San Francisco. Since I own several pieces of Chinese silver marked "sterling" (also with a Chinese chop mark) and it has been general thought that they were only copying this mark for American sensibilities, but what if some of this silver was actually made in the U.S., specifically those pieces also marked sterling. Isn't it conceivable that Chinese silver workers or chasers may have been brought to this country and sold their wares through places like Sing Fats? Comments are welcome.
