Allan Adler, the renowned California silversmith who recently passed away, sometimes marked his flatware with an initial after the "Allan Adler" mark. Because these initials recur, I believe them to be the initials of the individual craftsman who made the piece. But maybe they are date marks or marks for the retailer.

Can anyone help me on this?

If they are indeed the marks of a craftsman, who were these individuals?
Why are only some flatware pieces marked with the additional initial?
The marks I have seen are A, E, F, G, H, J, O.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Scott-

Thanks for your excellent suggestion to contact the Allan Adler company directly. Here is the reply from Adler's daughter Cynthia:

quote:
"Those additional letters represent the year they were manufactured. The last letter that was used was 'O'. This system was used in the 60's and 70's."
Now we know... wink
