A few years ago, some very close friends were about to be celebrating their anniversary. It was going to be their silver anniversary (25 years) and since they love silver as much as us, we thought silver. So we commissioned a silversmith to make something original for them. This was a great experience. The smith listened to what we had in mind (and our budget) and then he started to send us sketches. We weren't sure what we wanted so he sent us a few sets of sketches. Soon he hit upon a concept that seemed appropriate and he went to work. A few weeks later we presented our friends with an original one of a kind signed work of art. They and us were very pleased.

Ever since then, June has been looking for an opportunity (or a good excuse) to commission something again. On my birthday, she surprised me with a beautiful bowl by Fred E. Zweig. It was truly a great surprise. I will use it often and will cherish it forever.

The bowl is 3 ¼" high by 12 ½" diameter. So, YES! Those are huge oranges!!

I love the bowl but what I really appreciate is that Fred documented the making of the bowl for me. Here is what he sent me The making of the Martin Bowl (click here)

Thank you June and Fred.

Who made the Martin bowl?

And did Fred Z. sign and date his bowl? He made a spoon for me and marked it. Lovely bowl!

Callie,

I have been dating each piece, by year, as I make it. ... per your suggestion. I have an image of the mark and date on the sequence documentation.

I'm sorry. I meant who made the bowl that the Martins commissioned for the 25th anniversary!
