I am trying to find someone to help me find info on this piece.

It is a 6x3" x 3/8" thick envelop it opens like a power compact.
It is marked FLATO STERLING 14K PAT PENDING. It was sent in the mail. It has the postmark and cancellation engraved. It has two stamps on is a 15 cent special delivery and the other a 50 cent. It was mailed from San Marino California Aug 28, 1939.

I would like to find out how many of these he made?

I have found a little info on Paul Flato the maker. He is from Texas and he had a jewelry store in l.a. cal.
He made a lot of jewelry for the movie stars in the 20's & 30's. He made the jewelry for Kathryn Hepburn in the movie Hollywood. And jewelry for many other stars as well. He died in 1999 in Texas. I have been told the he was exiled from the U.S. for diamond theft, and was in trouble with the IRS.

I found a compact that he had made, that recently sold at auction for almost $5000.00.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you are correct in that it went through the mails (and the stamps are genuine paper stamps) then the philatelic crowd is likely to know more about this than silver collectors would.
