I have done with a good bit of researching have come up empty. I probably looked right over it in one of the many books I searched. Any information would be appreciated.

The tongs are small, only 4.625 inches, plain and simple in style. There are no fancy embellishments whatsoever.

The marks are

  • a shield with the initials JS&S, the ampersand and S are located just beneath the JS
  • A small square with clipped corners with, what looks to be an eagle inside.
  • An oblong with clipped corners with, what looks to be a beaver inside.
  • The last mark is another square with clipped corners with a capital "B" inside.
Thank you again,

Nance

It appears, with all the research I have done, there is a debate as to whether these marks are British or Canadian. The only knew information I found is the mark that I thought to be an eagle (not an eagle head profile but a flat full body eagle) could possibly be a fleur-de-lys instead. If so, it would make more sense that my sugar tongs are Canadian. This particular mark on my sugar tongs was not clearly defined but it does not look like a crown or bundled sheaves of wheat.
