This unusual looking server is made of solid silver, probably sterling, with an ivory handle. The monogram style dates the server to about 1890 or so. The piece looks like it could be handmade (the applied decorated border on the shoulders is not quite symmetrically cut; also note the tip of the blade). The design isn't quite as refined or successful as the ivory pieces made by Gorham and Whiting at this time.

The server is completely unmarked. It measures 8 7/8" long.

Has anybody seen anything similar?

Are you sure the handle is ivory rather than bone? It is hard to tell in the photos and I would have assumed that someone using ivory would have done a more refined job in executing the server.

Upon further inspection, the handle could well be bone. What I thought was the graining pattern exclusive to ivory is actually not quite as pronounced as I thought.
