HI All!

I guess this may be the best place to pass some info on to all if it's right.

A friend notes that in the Kovels October 2005 newsletter there is a tip about silver preservation for those living near a body of water, perhaps someone can verify its accuracy. They recommend keeping silica gel near your stored coins or other metals & check it once or twice a year to be sure it does not need to be replaced.

I have no clue, so that's why the post. Has anyone heard of this & is it "a good thing"?

Thanks,
Jersey

I keep a large packet of a desicant in not only my personal china hutch (which displays some of my finer silver & silverplate), but also in my glass display cases of silver.

Although I do not live near water, I DO live in a very humid area, and have very little tarnish build-up on my silver & silverplate stored & displayed this way.

As with nearly everything thing Kovel, they are simply repeating what has been considered standard practice for several decades. That said, it is good advise, whatever the source.
