Although we are not strictly supposed to talk about forthcoming auction items I came across this description of very ordinary plain sugar tongs, with shell bowls at auction.
quote:
Sometimes we come across items of virtu that combine hypnogogic visions ? Simplistic yet fabulously lovely, the clam shells pertaining to that symbolic drama: echos of waves crashing on rocky fronted shores ? visionary touches from inside to be viewed by others, the feel of silver, evident and perpetual on the verge of the ultimate revelation ? reflections of the moon on the silver sea held within the pupil.

Tongs to grab the sweetest integrated geomtric grains of sugar; cubes captured with mother natures inspired design of the tong ends ? shells.

Beautiful, tongs clearly hallmarked with date letter ?q?, Edinburgh castle, Georgian head facing to exit stage right with makers stamp on opposing sheerest shiniest silver leg; culminating in w.p.c., length of tongs from spinal curvature to shell end equates to exact measurement of 5 ??? and finally weight of prestigious tantalizing tongs is 44.09 gravity pulling grams.

Divination in silver ? flows like rippling water with reflections of smithing mastery echoed from eons past.

I wonder if the vendor sells certain substances as well

"It was a dark and stormy night . . . ."

This is a candidate for the prize given for the most overdone prose in honor of the English author who originated that phrase -- Bulwer Lytton, I believe.

Thanks for posting it.

That description reminds me of some on the same auction site about items that are being sold from China - as if the writer didn't speak English as a first language and had therefore written the description with a pencil in one hand and a thesaurus in the other. It is indeed purple prose!
