A small child or children, often with wings, are found in art and lore. We all seem to use the following terms interchangeable:
  • Putto (child in old Italian) or Putti - (children in old Italian).

  • Cupid (Roman Mythology)- a winged infant who carried a bow and quiver of arrows.

  • Modern Cupids- Sweet little baby-faced figures with bow and arrows in valentine depictions.

  • Cherubs or Cherubim - the first angels mentioned in the Bible and are said to stand next to the Throne of God. In the Bible, they are described as four-winged chubby babies.

  • standing baby

I have never seen a good comparative discussion of each nor have I seen a good visual comparison.

Can anyone provide definitions and image comparisons?
