As an fyi there is a resale shop near me that got a pair of ONC platters about 18" at 28 oz avoir each. They were priced above scrap but there are some scrappers who make the rounds and come through there about once a month. The items are reduced 10% a month and they keep an eye on the date of the reductions and recently bought a set of 6 Webster or International sterling goblets once the price went below scrap. They were there right as the store opened. I know they have their eyes on these platters. Hate to see them get scrapped.

Have you thought to make an offer to the retailer. This would be better than letting those money grubbing scrappers get hold of them.

As a consignment shop they won't bend the rules, so if nobody buys them before they hit their scrap value that's it I'm afraid.

We are sympathetic and sensitive to the harm scrappers do.

This thread is promoting another's business and the sale/valuation of the platters so it is not within the Guidelines.

Since your hearts seem to be in the right place, we are moving this thread to a private Silver Caucus Room so the two of you may continue to discuss this privately.

Hear is the edited conversation from the Silver Caucus Room:

Everyone... next time try to be a little more discreet when pushing against the guidelines.

Maybe next time email us first for advice about how to do the best to accomplish what it is you want to do.

The Silver Caucus Rooms are for rent $ but there occasionally can be exceptions, like this.

Thanks for making the exception Scott.
I know that business isn't allowed in the regular forums so that was why I was hesitant to ask.

I may have been wrong about the size, maybe closer to 15". Current price is $xxx each, they go down 10% a month from the date brought in, in this case 6/10. I asked one of the employees who has spoken with the scrappers what they said they do with what they buy and they told her they are only interested in scrapping stuff.

Consignors are anonymous, I have no idea who consigned them and no financial interest in them, but once they're gone they're gone forever and I certainly can't afford to rescue them.

Hi

Thanks for the price. Is there anyway to get a picture or can you describe them? I doubt I could get both but at least I could save one (assuming they can be purchased separately).

Secondly, what city/state are you? I am in xxx, xx so I would have to have it shipped. Based on Fridays close the scrap price is getting close but lets hope it keeps going down.

It's stamped on the back ONC/sterling/014 or 314, my closeup pic of the mark was blurry. Perhaps Middletom can provide more info. It has nice hammer marks on the inside rim.

Sorry to take so long to reply. Do you have the contact info for the store? Thanks

Second request.
Any news?

Once I know the conclusion to this story, I will close this forum and edit this thread so it can return to the public forums.

When might we know?

Scott: As I've done my part I'm out of it, but the pair is still at the store.
At least they haven't been bought for scrap yet.
