Just wanted to show off new sugar basket.

Paid too much but what the heck you can't take it with you.
Silversmiths are Wm Gale & Son

It is 6 1/2 inches side to side and 5 3/8 inches front to back. With the handle it is 7 inches tall. Weight is slightly over 10 troy oz. Could you imagine anyone wanting to melt such a nice piece no matter what the price got to. They have no soul.

There is a griffens (Griffin, griffon or gryphon), whichever way you like, head on the side and I will post a photo of it shortly.

Nice one yes. Regarding price, an internet friend once told me. When you buy something good - you pay (could be to much) but price you will forget. After a period you do not even remember the amount you paid, but you have the good thing. When you buy some junk you may also forget the price, but you dont have the pleasure of the thing. You will always be sorry.

I tell myself this every time I pay to much for something.

I am in the marked for a specific piece. The auction price will go higher that I can get similar piece for at flee markets. I know that, but again it is 200 years old and I don't know when I will find a similar at a flee market.

Most likely I will go high on that auction - because it is original Empire. From time.

Same case your sugar basket - congratulation. I full understand that you bought. When, where and by whom is it made?

Great purchase and one you can enjoy. I do tend to forget what we paid for items. I do try to keep a record so our children will have some knowledge of pricing.
Can you tell us something about your sugar basket?

Very nice. And I agree: It's not the things you do that you regret; it's the things you don't do. The basket will still be beautiful long after the sting of paying too much has passed.

Also, I'm not sure if you meant that the crest you show depicts a griffin, but for the record the heraldic beastie depicted here is a wyvern. (They have two legs, whereas griffins have four.) And the thing he's standing on is called a chapeau.

Thanks for sharing!
