I have tentatively attributed this mark to Chauncey Jonhson, c 1820 in Albany, but only because there are so few other possible C/J name possibilities. The piece is a narrow fiddleback teaspoon of very good weight with a strongly molded oval drop and small flared shoulders. It is struck twice with different punches -- I am assuming the partial is a larger version of the smaller CJ.

Anyone seem either before?

Wev,

Without the benefit of seeing the spoon, I believe it's Scottish Provincial by Charles Jamieson of Inverness. The Directory of Scottish Provincial Silversmiths @ Their Marks pg 20 provides a picture of the exact marks you have presented. In addition, the photo also has the "INS" stamp.

The picture you posted is fine. Having looked at it, my money is absolutely on Charles Jamieson of Inverness (1797-1819). Nice spoon and it looks in good condition.

Yep - Charles Jamieson is my bet. I have a couple of items (flat and hollowware) by this maker with identical marks, the initials and the sideways J.
