I know I'm asking a lot.....But does anyone here know of a good source for traditional wood (mahogany)trophy bases? I'm a member of a yacht club that is in need. We are working with a talented local woodworker on some custom bases, but it seems as tho' there should be some source for more standard round wood bases (sometimes called 'plinths'). Our assumption is that someone who is producing these all the time could do it much more less expensively, with experience and the proper turning set-up. Have spent a lot of time in online searches with precious little luck.

I have nothing useful to suggest--just popping in to say I really like the word /plinth/.

Seaduck I did a search for "plinth base trophy" and there were several companies that popped up that sold the base only.
Hope you find something to your liking.

Hi Ahwt--
I really appreciate that. Hadn't tried that specific combo of search terms, so gave it another go and found the same companies as had appeared on my earlier searches.

Interestingly, there seem to be several providers in the UK. Precious few in the US, especially if you are looking for solid wood (non-veneered), mahogany, and sizes as much as 11" in diam. I am hoping/imagining that there is a small specialty business somewhere that isn't visible enough to stand up to searches yielding the big trophy supply companies.

(Polly: I agree. It would make a terrific password in a spy novel.)

Seaduck I am doing some trophy repairs for a yacht club and they are having their bases refinished by a woodworker. I will see if he makes too - no promises...

Ha! Rob -- I think I'm your yacht club! Our guy is doing a custom base for us now. Gave us a guesstimate for one of the more typical round bases. We may end up going in that direction, but I suspect there are less expensive sources out there if there are shops that have the tooling/equipment to churn these things out. Not that anybody is "churning out" high-end mahogany trophy bases these days............
