Polly,

smile Very cool idea. smile

My pin hole box/camera wasn't as cool and really didn't work any better.

Next time I'll do it your way.

Great idea Polly. The multiple patterns are really clear.

We were in the parking lot of an antique mall in Nashville for the eclipse. The first picture shows the sun under a cloud when it was covered with about ¾ of the moon. Luckily the cloud kept going and the second picture shows the sun just after the moon covered the sun and the
Corona became visible. Darkness stayed for a less than 2 minutes.

I can see now why some people follow eclipses around the world as looking at the whole progression was amazing.

So incredibly cool, awht!! I wish I'd seen the totality! It was only 71% at its fullest here in NYC. The next one's in 7 years, and I'm going to make a real effort to travel where I can see the total eclipse then.

When the last sliver of the sun disappeared it really was like someone turned off the lights and even the katydids stopped singing. The Corona looks bright in pictures but did not produce any discernible light on earth.
There must have been some souvenir silver spoons that were made for such event in previous years.
The 2024 total eclipse is in April and with spring weather may be harder to predict where clear skies will be.

June thank you, I am glad you liked this post. The August 21st was our 54th wedding anniversary so we had a great time.

The Solar Ellipse of April 8, 2024
will be closer to those living in the Northeast part of the US and will again be a total eclipse. Whether it is the light of the silvery moon or the moon being a light switch to turn off the sun it is intriguing to think about our rotation in space every once in a while. On a previous anniversary we went to an herb festival in Norway, Iowa. This town is small, has almost no artificial light and at the night the skies open up for grand show. Maybe not the sudden spectacular show of an eclipse, but it was just as wonderful.
