Finding & drawing in new silverphiles to the Silver Salon Forums

In today's world, word of mouth (referrals) seems to be solidly rooted in social media. The Silver Salon Forums (aka, SSF) does have a limited social media footprint but could use everyone's help to expand our footprint.

Our shared Silver interest needs more social media exposure. Please, when appropriate, mention and provide a link to the Silver Salon Forums when visiting your favorite social media sites.

I think the biggest thing would be an easier way to post photos would bring and keep members here.
Why cant we just make a post, click on a photo manager,,click, find our photo and click on it and have it post! It's on the simplest of sites/forums.. The few people I recommended this site to all said the same thing,,too complicated to put on a photo.. Make a photo limit of lets say 200kb and maybe lets try another way IF possible.

Also how about a 'remember our password type thing so members don't have to go thru the whole log in thing. Maybe seems trivial but people want on fast, post and come on the next day without the whole log on / password thing..

Just my opinions as I do like it here , there;s some great moderators and members etc.

This post was started as:

Finding & drawing in new silverphiles to the Silver Salon Forums

And was essentially about marketing what we have.

Gaspare,

Thank you for your suggestion.

We have heard it all before ..... and have explained numerous times...but not everyone sees those posts....

It really boils down to time, money, personnel and support.

We could start from scratch and throw away the 25 years of posts/treads/photos; then mount a more modern forum which will do all that you say and more. This requires a fair amount of money, time, personnel and comes with a new boat load of security issues.

There is an additional approach which requires even more money, time, personnel and then long term several on-going support/security personnel,etc...... To accomplish this transition we'd need to hire a team to re-code/import the existing 25 years of posts/treads/photos into a new forum application. And before this we, have would have to thoroughly test several commercially available forum applications before selecting one.

Donations to the forums are greatly appreciated but there have only been a few and the limited contributed $$ have only helped with couple of months of existing operational costs.

"...Make a photo limit of lets say 200kb..." we are not sure what you mean? In the existing SSF gallery there is lots of storage.

We see you have never visited our photo SSF gallery. Please give it a try. I think its pretty easy...perhaps other members think differently.

This original post was to encourage members to promote the SSF in social media.

I am on a British Pottery Forum on Facebook and the posting of photos is a little easier as it somehow automatically sizes the photo. The downside is that forum does not really create a body of knowledge that is searchable as this one is.
I have from time to time tried to bring silver into the discussion on the British forum as there actually are major areas of design similarities. Collectors of British ceramics collectors do not seem to have any interest in silver.
I really do think that the number of collectors of silver has gone down in recent years. Once you post a picture here it really is not hard to do it again so I think participation on this forum it is more a question of how many people are really interested.

Gaspare,

I replied to the above post thinking it was you.....and deleted the reply. hopefully no one saw it. smile

Ahwt,

You have been an SSF member since 2003.

You mention FB.... Anytime you are on FB (and most places on the Internet) your privacy/security is at risk. At the SSF we have gone out of our way to respect and protect your privacy. If we didn't, we could be making a bunch of money to cover our costs.

Our new Forum Photo Gallery was installed in June 2014.

You say:

....British Pottery Forum on Facebook and the posting of photos is a little easier as it somehow automatically sizes the photo. ...
Are you not aware that the SSF Gallery does automatically resize the image and provides the code/link to cut/paste into your post.
Once you post a picture here it really is not hard to do it again so I think participation on this forum it is more a question of how many people are really interested.
True.
And that's what this post was about.
I'm hoping this post/thread gets back on subject.

Scott, Thanks for the information about sizing as I did not know that. The software I use for photos automatically sizes whatever I export so I have not needed that feature.
I do realize the Internet and particularly Facebook has a downside and my attempts to limit exposure have not always been successful. I never set up an online banking account thinking that the it would be safer not to have something I really do not need. Well someone went to my bank via the Internet and set one up in my name and even requested overdraft protection. Luckily my bank set me notice by mail and I cancelled these transactions. The US Post Office saved the day.
On the issue of this thread I think in time interest will return for silver. We go to Atlanta often for an antique market and do see silver dealers returning. Hopefully this trend will continue.

I'll be glad to try and get you some new members!!! I'm on instagram and have met many silver friends. I've sent several your way but didn't know if "advertising" for Silver Salon was permitted. If you have a preference on what you'd like said, please send my way and I'll post immediately!!

I'm not on here a whole lot because my contribution is rather limited and my knowledge is mostly on my favorite subject. I don't feel I have enough information to play a constant active role. However, I do "oohhh" and "ahhhh" and respond when I find something very interesting. I find my subject of sterling ring boxes very interesting because there are actually so many and so little is known about them. So the majority of my time is spent researching as much as I can and making contact with those who love the ring boxes too.
