[26-2135] I am looking for help/information on silversmith companies that would be able to reproduce a trophy cup from a picture and dimensions I remember at a reasonable price. There are several silversmiths who could do this, but your comment about 'reasonable price' makes me wonder if you understand that there are only a few master silversmiths left and their time and expertise would need to be compensated in relation to their unique artistic ability. One such place that might take on such a commission is Old Newbury Crafters. You can go to their website and get an idea of what a hand-made silver trophy, of a simpler style than the one you are seeking, might run you these days. IP: Logged |

Helllo Brian, Sorry to hear about your loss. Have you tried looking on the internet, such as various auction sites? Also, if they are replica trophies perhaps there are more than one around that you might be able to purchase. What is the inscription on the one in your photo, it is very hard to read? Do you know for sure if it is sterling or silver plate? Where/when did you get them? How many were stolen & when? Has it been reported to the police? Jersey IP: Logged |

I have periodically searched the internet over the past 2 years but most of the companies I found only deal in flatware and small gifts. I have also watched eBay and found a trophy cup very close in size/shape. I took it to a company I found to see if it could be used to simplify the mould process and they quoted me $20K for a 12 inch version in pewter. I did submit a police report for the theft but was told recovery was a slim possibility and that i should watch auction sites to see if it showed up. I have been watching a particular site that deals in high end hockey memorabilia but it hasn't shown up. I am not aware of other sites I should be looking at so any help you can provide in this area would be much appreciated. I checked with several of the guys I played with and only a handful of us bought the original replica. I was hoping to make a copy of one of theirs but no one has theirs any longer. Unfortunately the owner of the team passed away about 15 years ago and he was the one who commissioned the replicas for us. It seems like I am just about out of options.

Hi Brian! Yeah, Glad to hear you're a hockey fan! Do you still follow the game? Am watching a game now. Repeating my previous request, what is the exact inscription on the trophy, and what was the school & town involved. BTW welcome to the forums, hope we can help you. The trophy was from the 1980 senior amateur championships and the team was the Spokane Flyers. The inscription on the side you see in the photo reads:
Senior Amateur Champions Presented By Sir H Montague Allan CVO

No. Danyeko played for the Spokane Flyers WHL junior team in 1980-81. The Spokane Flyers team I am speaking of was the WIHL senior team in 1979-80.

Hi everyone, Let me elaborate on Kimo's comment,there are only a few craftsmen in this country that could reproduce this cup. I've done this type of work many times in my 40 years of silversmithing. The company that originally made this spun it on tooling that was made for production. The tooling; a progression of hardwood chucks with most likely steel chucks to finish then on, a master handle would be carved a mold made. Now you have 2 weeks of work plus hard wood and steel, casting and mold costs and you have not even started it yet. It takes a specially skilled craftsman to make the chucks and carve the prototype handle. Now the real skill and work begins. A silver spinner now begins the forming of the thin circle of silver over the hard wood drafting chucks annealing the silver at various times to keep it soft and workable after a couple of days you have the basic form ready to be planished, polished, chased,and assembled then the handle has to be casted cleaned up and soldered on finely it is sent to the polishing room for a day or more of finishing. Now that the silver part is done it is time to start the stand , hard wood[Ebony?] is turned, sanded and finished. Many hours of work goes into a project like this and it's only reasonable if you are doing multiples. One of a kind only if it a really special project. The good news is this trophy could be around for a few hundred years of enjoyment and worth every penny. Shouldn't a dying art form be worth as much or more as your local dentist or doctor? Bottom line 20K = fair price. IP: Logged |
