I found these two horn cups this weekend that are a little unusual. At least I have never seen these types of cups having their interior lined with silver. The top and bottom of the cups have the normal band of silver around them, but underneath the top band is the top of a silver insert that conforms to the interior of the horn. This insert appears to be very thin and is marked with the letter IP that I assume or the maker’s initials.

I think the discoloration on the band is what is left of a varnish. I have polished them, but the varnish will take something other than silver polish to remove.

I wonder if anyone has seen this type of construction before.
