Meriden, Connecticut has long been known as a historic hotbed of metal manufacturing. It became the center of pewter, britannia ware and silver manufacturing in the 19th century and was home to H.C.Wilcox and Co., the Meriden Britannia Company and it's successor firm of International Silver. In 1984 when International Silver was sold to Katy Industries, the International Silver collection of artifacts & publications was donated to the Meriden Historical Society. The Napier Company was also located in Meriden, Connecticut. During the 20th century, they produced a large line of jewelry and sterling novelties and dresserware. The Meriden Historical Society plans to set up a permanent display featuring Napier company items in its Andrews Homestead location and is seeking permanent donations of Napier cocktail items, barware, cigarette related items, banks or jewelry. Contact the society and if possible provide a photo and description of any item you are interested in donating. IP: Logged |
