Please help me with this one, I have a small pocket watch, that is supposedly from the 19th century and of french origin. It has hallmarks all over it. The most common one is what appears to be a lion or dog on its hind legs facing left with its right fore foot highest.

It is on the inside of the case, the base of the stem for the winder, and the loop at the top that the chain attatches to. On this loop is the initial "UR".

The watch uses the old lever system to keep time, and inside the watch motor cover are the numbers "37533" and below it "0,935". Below that are two larger lions and one smaller one.

This was an engagement gift from my fiancee and I am very curious. Please help.

Shawn, photos or even sketches of the marks will help identify them, since more than one country used lion or dog marks. Also, a description of the decoration would help too--such as if the piece is enameled, engraved, etc.

In the meantime, however, I will see if I can determine your watch's origin. Many watch cases of this time were indeed French, so that could be correct. The lion could be a British mark, in which case the watch case was probably imported into England.
