The book "Collectible Silver Jewelry" by Fred Rezazadeh mentions that a Danish designer named Kurt Eric Cristoffersen worked briefly for International Silver Co. in the 1950's, and was responsible for some modernist silver jewelry. This modern-style pin, in the shape of a stalk of wheat, appears to have the [I][S] mark of International Silver flanking a "KC" cypher. Does anyone know if this might be a Christoffersen piece? I can't seem to find any additional information outside of the book. Thanks!

Brent

Dorothy Rainwater mentions in her American Jewelry Manufacturers book that Christoffersen's designs were created with regional flavor. She cites "Wheat" as a design with Midwest appeal. Sounds like your pin.

Seek and ye shall find. I was flipping through back issues of Silver magazine and found an article on Mr. Christoffersen (July/August 1995). It shows a picture of my pin, albeit in a different form. The pictured pin has long tendrils coming from each grain. Perhaps the pin was made in two versions, or maybe the tendrils proved too delicate and were not included in the final version. There is a possibility that my pin had its tendrils removed, but I doubt it. The article mentions that some pieces were intended for formal wear, and others for casual wear. Perhaps this is the informal version.

Regradless, this IS the mark of Mr. Christoffersen for International Sterling Crafts Associates.
