did silver marked mexico come before or after marking jewelry by name or tacxo? I have a bracelet marked mexico only? very old.. IP: Logged |

Hi Debra, and welcome to the forums. I took a quick look at Warman's Jewelry (a highly recommended, inexpensive text), and apparently, 1931 was the year when Taxco began to be a center of jewelry production in Mexico. So any piece marked "Taxco" would be made after that. However, that does not mean every piece marked only "MEXICO" was made prior to 1931. I have seen many pieces stamped "Mexico," "Mexico Silver," etc., that were made later than 1931. My guess is that your bracelet is from the 1940s or so, but if you post a picture of the bracelet, we might be able to help you date it more accurately.
