Hello All!

Just found this site this evening; there seems to be a lot of good info. here, so thought I'd post a quesiton and see what you make of this.

Recently I purchased a small (approximately 2") sterling pin depicting a hummingbird sucking nectar from a flower; the hummingbird dangles separately from the flower by his beak which I thought was pretty neat. On the back side of this pin there are the letters UB, any ideas on whose makers mark this might be? Since there is a safety catch on the pinback, I am assuming this is not old enough to be an Unger Brothers piece as I believe they quit producing sterling jewelry pre WW1, also the U and B are separate letters, side by side, and not conjoined as seen on most Unger Brothers jewelry. However, the exquisite detail and quality craftsmanship, not to mention a LOT of patina make me think this is not a new piece.

Was there another silver company besides Unger Brothers who used the UB mark on their jewelry? Any and all information would be gladly appreciated. BTW: Bought this one for my Mom, she loves hummingbirds. smile

Thanks for reading this and best wishes,

Suzanne Ward smile

Hi Suzanne. Do you think you could post a photo of the piece and its marks? That might help better identify maker and period of manufacture. In the meantime, I'll take a look in my books and see if I can find any makers who might have used the UB trademark. The design doesn't sound like Unger Bros.
