Hi there. Can anyone help with the makers mark on a brooch that I have. On the back it says STERLING and gives the initials J.C.& S. The S is very faint, therefore could possibly be another letter. The brooch looks very old it is circular in shape with 2 circular designs on the bottom and a dagger shape with the same design on the hilt cutting through the circle diagonally. Thanks IP: Logged |

Without a picture it is difficult to say, but this sounds like an example of Celtic design. Which style extends back for centuries and is still made. A picture would really help ![]() IP: Logged |

The pin sounds like a traditional Celtic design, both in shape and decoration, as Dale said. I have seen the mark JC & S on several pieces of turn of the century Celtic style items, including pins and novelties like matchsafes. Most of these items were set with a green stone (I forget the name) and were marked with hallmarks rather than STERLING. I would like to see a picture of your item, if possible. IP: Logged |
