collecting.dust Posts: 23 Registered: Feb 2005	posted 02-11-2005 02:41 AM I bought this necklace a couple of months ago and have struggled to do a correct id of it. There are no markings but it does test as silver. Judging by the acid reaction I would say its lower grade than sterling - probably 800. These are guesses on my part about it ? Persian - Iran / Iraq origin. ? the arabic writing relates to a specific prayer or passages from the Qu'ran ? Possibly some kind of wedding or dowry necklace. The clasp suggests it does have some age. But could this just be Tourist Fayre. Can anyone shed any light on this as I am a little intrigued by it. Thank you for any help IP: Logged

If the piece has an Arabic inscription, it may be a religious amulet, such as the Ayat al Kursi (the Throne Verse, a very popular prayer), see the Second Surah, around line 255 of the Kuran.
