Some is wonderful and some is hideous (also it is often derivative of vintage jewelry designs). Here are some examples. Yohji Yamamoto for Mikimoto suite, 2007. I looked at this whole collection in person at the Yamamoto flagship in SoHo when it came out, all of the designs were really beautiful and modern, and well-made as would be expected from Mikimoto (and extraordinarily expensive of course) Yohji Yamamoto silver bracelet, 2007 Vivienne Westwood metal necklace, 1993 Vivienne Westwood silverplate, rhinestone, and milk glass suite, 1990s Ann Demeulemeester silver earrings, 2008 Thierry Mugler silver necklace, 1980s Martin Margiela spoon ring, 2008 (I was disappointed by this Belgian designer's first jewelry collection; his apparel is very avant-garde and conceptual, and recycling old materials is one of his tropes [e.g. scarf made from old shoe laces]; however his spoon ring is nothing new or creative, yet it retailed for a few hundred dollars [!] when it debuted). Martin Margiela sterling gift bow ring, 2008 Martin Margiela silver paper clip necklace, 2008 Martin Margiela silver ring, 2008 Jean Paul Gaultier silver choker, 2000s Jean Paul Gaultier metal "tin can" bangle, 1990s Jean Paul Gaultier silver bracelet, 2000s John Galliano gold & precious gem necklace, 2008 Chloe silver (and other) bracelets, 1993 Currently there is a trend for Goth/"rocker" motifs, so a lot of contemporary designer silver jewelry features motifs such as skulls, daggers, swords, crosses, layered chains, etc. Elsa Peretti used to design silver jewelry for the iconic clothing label Halston (before she went to Tiffany).
