Here are a couple of survivors from the pre-cardboard days of the 19th century. They are wholesale jewelry trade boxes, one from Wendell & Co. of 25 West 45th St., and another from R, L & M Friedlander of 30 Maiden Lane. I assume boxes of this type were used to transfer goods among manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, and most probably ended up in the fire years ago. Anyway, enjoy!
