![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Today's Wall Street Journal included an article about the new popularity of silver jewelry. The popularity is said to be driven by the rising cost of gold, trends toward larger pieces of jewelry more affordable at silver price levels and the more complementary contrast of silver against certain skin tones. In addressing silver's tarnishability, Ryan Kleman of online retailer Moda Operandi, recommends wearing the jewelry regularly to allow skin oils to slow tarnishing, polishing with toothbrush and silver polish and a more permanent solution of asking your jeweler to plate your silver jewelry with rhodium. Do skin oils really slow tarnishing? Shouldn't the polishing recommendation be more specific and steer people clear of abrasive rouge polishes? Why would you coat your silver with rhodium? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of wearing silver in the first place? Curious about your thoughts. IP: Logged |
