We attended this lecture and found it very enlightening. Christina Miller is a wonderful speaker who educated us about the long lingering toxic effects of metal mining.

It made everyone in the audience wonder what they could do to ensure that the metalwares they buy are sourced responsibly. Unfortunately, there is no foolproof way to do this.

However, Christina did tell us about an intriguing event called Radical Jewelry Makeover sponsored by Millersville University's Jewelry and Metal Arts Guild. Donations are accepted of old jewelry which is then melted down and remade into new jewelry creations by the university's jewelry students as well as guest jewelers.

Donations will be accepted until October 22, 2007. The resulting jewelry will be on exhibition for purchase on Friday November 2 and Saturday November 3 in Lancaster Pennsylvania.
