In case you missed it at the Cooper-Hewitt last year, now is your chance to see a great exhibit of flatware!

Feeding Desire: Design and the Tools of the Table, 1500-2005 [link gone from the Internet]

November 1, 2008 - February 1, 2009
Discover a rich view of the evolution of European and American dining from the 1500s to the present, showing the drama of dining and design through cutlery, books, and art. For the last 500 years, the designs of knives, forks, and spoons have provided beautiful and useful extensions of our arms, turning the act of eating into the experience of dining. The exhibition's themes include Dining on the Move, Fashionable Foods, Specialty Tools, Materials & Production, Naturalism, Ergonomics of the Table, Color at the Table, Flatware for Children, and 20th-Century Modernism

The exhibit will be at Winterthur for the next few months. I am not sure it it will be on exhibit again at the Copper-Hewitt. There were rumors of this exhibit going on display at a museum in Napa Valley but that never happened.

Thanks for the update, Carla. Winterthur will be a beautiful venue for this exhibit. Too bad it will be winter so the flowers won't be in bloom.

I enjoyed that exhibit very much when it was at the Cooper-Hewitt. The highlight was a breathtaking set of naturalistic silver forks, spoons, etc--leaves, twigs, bugs, & so on.
