A new exhibit has just opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City entitled Silver Caesars: A Renaissance Mystery. The object of the exhibit is a set of 12 16th century Renaissance period silver-gilt tazze each depicting a Roman emperor. The maker is unknown but 6 of the 12 bear the Aldobrandini family crest. What is most interesting is that this is the first time since the mid-19th century that all twelve have been correctly assembled all together for public viewing. Over the years, the tazze were disassembled, moved around and reassembled incorrectly. The exhibit is open through March 11, 2018. IP: Logged |
