Scott! Aside from the fact the catalog info using the # 7 as a PO sorter, that would obvioulsy predate zip codes (1964) Their online old catalog shows (as an example) thimble #401 made between 1880's-1920. Their company is still in business today and has an online site with old catalog info. Hope this helps somewhat. I am still trying to find out when single digit PO numbers were used. Jersey

A bill from Simons:

It is obviously earlier than Scott's catalogue. The address is different and the brother appears not to have yet achieved equal status. Most curious, however, is the date of the company's founding. In the bill, it is 1840 but in the catalogue 1839 - reinventing history?

The titling face (Caslon Open) used for the word THIMBLES was introduced by ATF around 1919. I'll see if I can get an exact date.

The one or two digit Postal zone codes, used to designate areas in the larger cities, were put into use in 1943.

The country was sectioned into at least 9 postal codes soon after WWII, the Southeast (Alabama) was Birmingham 9, Alabama...
