Culled from my recent purchases are two books that I can highly recommend for people with a pair of specialized interests.

John Clarke, Jewellery of Tibet and the Himalayas (Harry Abrams for the V & A, 2004), is the best thing I've found on the subject. Excellent photos, and a great range of pieces drawn from numerous collections. Includes photos of people wearing this ornate jewelry.

Elena Phipps, Johanna Hecht, and Cristina Esteras Martin (with contributions by others), The Colonial Andes: Tapestries and Silverwork, 1530-1830 (Yale University Press and the Metropolitan, 2004), has lots of great information and photos on the silver of this area. The text is by leading scholars (including a friend of mine, who I didn't know had done this). Mostly religious pieces, but also a chapter on secular work, including tupus and ttipquis - the large clothing pins that are relatively common - maté cups, etc.

I got both of these at the Metropolitan, in NY, but they may be available elsewhere as well.
