This advertisement was transcribed from the 1852 Newark City Directory. With the fondness of so many have for monograms and initials it looked like it might be interesting:

Out of curiosity when did coffin plates fall out of favor?

The only one I have with a date is 1889, but I'm sure I've seen ones dated in the 1890s, and I think I've seen a few slightly into the 1900s. I think it's around that time that they drop out.
