As I am a new member, I am not sure how to "reply" to a topic in the regular forums. This is intended as a reply on the subject of PDF Project.

I am enthusiastically interested in participating in this project!

I am happy to accept any and all research material. I always welcome especially non-English and non-US documents as they are harder to come by, but all material is highly appreciated and perused by me when I have it.

I spend most of my free time researching silversmiths from around the world in trying to document the makers of my souvenir spoons.

If I had to choose, my top ten choices would be:

  1. A. (blakstones's) - a 1920's German Jeweler's Yearbook
  2. T. Henry Birks & Son - 1911
  3. AE. T. Eaton Co - Toronto
  4. AA. Oriental Silver Work - Malay and Chinese - 1910
  5. AM. Trade Catalogues at the Winterthur Museum Part II
  6. S. Gorham catalogs -1880-1900
  7. Y. Nerlich & Co. Catalog
  8. N. Catalogue of The Jewellery, Greek, Etruscan, And Roman - British Museum
  9. K. Burlington Fine Arts Club -Collection of Silversmiths work of European origin
  10. Q.Ellis Bros. Limited Diamond Importers, Jewelers & Silversmiths

It might be interesting to others in this forum that some of the publications are already available for free PDF Download at Google Books.

There may be more from the list that are available than just the ones I have listed.

The ones I have discovered to be available FREE for FULL VIEW and PDF Download are:
(Using the reference letters from Scott Martins Topic: Topic: Publications in PDF downloading project)

  • D -A Descriptive Catalogue of The Antiquities - Museum of the Royal Irish Academy
  • E -A handful of silver: six stories of silversmiths
  • G - Abbott's American Watchmaker and Jeweler
  • I - American silver the work of seventeenth and eighteenth century silversmiths
  • L -Catalog of an Exhibition of Silver Used in NY, NJ, and the South
  • U - Historical Publications of the Towle
  • V - The Colonial Book - Towle Mfg. Co -1898
  • Z - Old plate, its makers & marks
  • John Henry Buck - 1903 (Published by Gorham)
  • AI - The Goldsmith's Handbook Containing Full Instructions For The Alloying and Working of Gold -1881 (This is 1892 tho')
  • AL - Through One Hundred Years - Black Star & Frost -1910

I have found Google books to be very helpful in my research of my Antique Souvenir Spoons.

Thank you

You are most welcome! I was amazed as well at the wealth of information Google Books has! I am an avid reader and have been glued to my computer reading some of the historical books there. What fun to discover and learn.

My original Souvenir Spoon research has turned into quite a history lesson!
