Elegant Plate: Three Centuries of Precious Metals in NYC by Deborah Dependahl Waters is highly recommended by me. It is a two volume set filled with great images and good text.

I do not have the Darling Foundation book. That was a limited edition book that I think primarily focused on makers marks. It is very expensive and may be of more interest to book collectors as today there are so many good sources for makers marks.
